An island of sand, sun, luxury resorts and a fascinating blend of cultures
For an island in the middle of nowhere, Mauritius (east of Madagascar) is a remarkably cosmopolitan place. Since outsiders first settled there some 400 years ago, it has accumulated a diverse collection of people from India, Europe, Africa and China, and could serve as a poster for multicultural harmony. As a result, Mauritius holidays offer a great getaway for travellers.
Mauritius holidays will appeal to travellers who love beaches, the ocean and a relaxed atmosphere. With turquoise blue seas, white sand beaches, tropical luxury resorts, swaying palm trees a picture of paradise often springs to mind.
Along with sun, sand and sea comes a fascinating blend of cultures. You can alternate visits to multicoloured temples, museums and markets and festivals with swimming, deep-sea fishing, snorkelling or diving and treks through nature reserves, bird sanctuaries and Black River Gorges with its dramatic forests.
Port Louis, claimed to be Africa’s wealthiest city, in the north west of the island is a bustling centre and further south lie the towns of Quatre Bornes and Curepipe with their busy textile markets. Mauritius also features shell hunting, mountains and volcanoes. One can easily see that a Mauritius package is not just about beaches and ocean.
Concierge Traveller specialises in Mauritius packages and has holidays to suit most budgets.
When to travel to Mauritius
Mauritius holidays can be enjoyed anytime with a tropical climate that’s pleasantly warm all year round. During the Summer (Dec-Mar) it can get very humid. The best time to travel Mauritius would be May to November when its drier and cooler.
Advisor tips for Mauritius
The Oberoi – Mauritius
The resort is located in a bay and has beautiful views of the ocean. It is only 15-20mins from Port Louisthe capital making it very accessible. The grounds are lush, tropical and hidden sculptures are located all over the gardens. There is a stunning infinity pool – for adults only – which is tucked away in a quiet and secluded area of the resort. The main pool is a lovely sight with its cobalt blue colour.
I suggest to totally enjoy this resort you should stay in the private villas – these have their own plunge pools and alfresco dining area – totally spoilt. - Melanie
