GERMANY: 8th– 22nd Jan – Tannheim Balloon Festival
FEBRUARY 2012
ITALY: 21st Feb – Carnevale in Italy is a huge winter festival celebrated with parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, music, and parties. Children throw confetti at each other. Mischief and pranks are also common during Carnevale.
MARCH 2012
IRELAND: 17th March – St Patrick’s Day March – Parade through the city of Dublin. Today’s celebrations on Saint Patrick’s Day have more a touch of “mardi gras” than pious observances in most Irish towns.
APRIL 2012
ITALY: 21st - April - Rome’s birthday - if you’re in Rome, watch for festivals, concerts, and special events. There’s usually a fireworks display over the Tiber River and gladiator shows around the
forum area.
LONDON: 22nd April – London marathon - The annual London Marathon sees London’s streets shut to traffic as tens of thousands of runners pound a 26.2-mile route
through the city.
NETHERLANDS: 21st April –Tulip Time and Keukenhof Flower Parade –The procession consists of about twenty floats and more than thirty vehicles all covered with flowers and decorated lavishly. Gardens open to the public.
SPAIN: 24th April – 29th April - Seville’s April Fair (La Feria de Abril) - At noon every day there is a procession called the ‘Paseo de Caballos’ in which local girls in their full flamenco outfit are pulled through the city in beautiful carriages by splendid horses. In the evening some of the year’s top bullfights take place at the Plaza de Toros de Maestranza with tickets selling out well in advance.

AZERBAIJAN: 26th May – Eurovision Song Contest finale
CZECH REPUBLIC: 17th May – 2nd June – Czech Beer Festival in Prague - Sample 70 different beers from Czech breweries and local food. Waiters dress in traditional Czech folk costume and there are live bands to entertain.
ENGLAND: 22nd – 30th May - Chelsea Flower Show
ENGLAND: 12th May – Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling - See people risking life and limb chasing cheese, where competitors battle it out in pursuit of an eight-pound Double Gloucester.
FRANCE: 8th May - Victory Day - End of World War II parade(Champs Élysées)
FRANCE: 16 – 27th May – Cannes Film Festival
FRANCE: 27th May – 10th June - French Open Tennis Championships
MONACO: 24thMay – 27th May – Monaco Grand Prix
RUSSIA: 9th May – Victory Day Parade

JUNE 2012

ENGLAND: 2nd June – 5th June – The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Expect street parties, bunting galore and a rousing display of national pride.
ENGLAND: 16th June– Trooping the Colour - The Queen’s official birthday, an annual display of pomp and ceremony.
ENGLAND: 25th June – 8th July - Wimbledon Tennis Championships
FRANCE: 27th May – 10th June - French Open Tennis Championships
FRANCE: 30thJune – 22nd July - Tour de France
ITALY: 7th June - Corpus Domini - Feast of Corpus Christi. In Rome, an outdoor evening mass is celebrated at San Giovanni in Laterno, Rome’s cathedral followed by a procession led by the Pope from there to Santa Maria Maggiore.
SPAIN: 22nd – 24th June - European Formula 1 Grand Prix Valencia
SWITZERLAND: June 29th - July 14th -Montreux Jazz Festival.

AUSTRIA: Salzberg Music Festival- International musicians and music lovers come together in Salzburg to pay tribute to the musical genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
ENGLAND: 25th June – 8th July - Wimbledon Tennis Championships
ENGLAND: 8th July – British Formula 1 Grand Prix, Silverstone
ENGLAND: 15thJuly – 10th Sept – The Proms - The world’s greatest classical music festival.

POLAND: 14th July - Days of Grunwald Battle - the historical reconstruction of the Grunwald Battle which attracts about 70,000 visitors from far and near. A unique festival of music and crafts, including piping, singing, dancing, medieval cooking and drinks and art work. Discover the medieval world.
SPAIN: 6th July – 14th July - Pamplona, Running of the Bulls- part of the San Fermin Festival.
AUGUST 2012
ENGLAND: 15th July – 10th Sept – The Proms - The world’s greatest classical music festival.
ENGLAND: 29th Aug – 9th Sept – London Paralympic Games
GERMANY: 11th Aug - Rhine in Flames - During this festival, the stunning landscape of the Rhine valley is illuminated by firework displays, and thousands of Bengal fires bathe river, banks, and medieval castles in magic colors.
SCOTLAND: 3rd – 25th Aug – Edinburgh Military Tattoo
SCOTLAND: 3rd – 27th Aug - Edinburgh Fringe Festival
SPAIN: 29th Aug – Tomatino Tomato Fight Festival
SWITZERLAND: Cow Pat Festival - Riederalp, Swiss Valais. In late August, this tiny village of 500 residents and 17,000 cowpats holds the Cowpat Festival (Chüfladefäscht). The aim is to fertilise the high pastures and have mucky fun in the process. All are welcome to join villagers for a jolly day of dung-pulverising contests – bring your walking boots, garden spade or golf club.

NOVEMBER 2012
GERMANY: Jazz Festival Berlin - considered to be one of the world’s premier jazz events.
SWITZERLAND: World Santa Claus Championships - pseudo-Santas descend on the sleepy mountain village to do battle for the title of World’s Best Santa. Watch Father Christmases prove their worth in disciplines like chimney climbing, snowball throwing, gingerbread decorating, and delivering presents by…donkey.
DECEMBER 2012
ITALY: 8th Dec - Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception, is a national holiday. There are celebrations throughout Italy and churches hold special masses. You’ll find parades, feasts, and music in many places. In the Abruzzo region, it is often celebrated with bonfires and traditional singing. Rome celebrates with floral wreaths and a ceremony at the Spanish Steps presided over by the Pope. Although government offices and banks are closed, many stores stay open for holiday shopping.
