This Morocco tour explores some of the lesser known areas of Southern Morocco. See the towns of the ‘Souss’, the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert.

Sample Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech – Taroudant (3.5 hours) (D)
Taroudant is a market town, a scaled down, slowed down town that resembles Marrakech with its surrounding ramparts. It has a predominantly Berber population, who are well known for their friendliness. Little affected by tourism, it provides an authentic experience of everyday life and its souks are said to be the best in the south with the quality of handicrafts often higher than those elsewhere in Morocco.

Day 2: Taroudant – Mirleft (3 hours) (B, D)
Mirleft is a small village to the south of Tiznit near the Atlantic coast. There is an oasis and a ruined fort nearby.

Day 3: Mirleft (B, D)
Enjoy today relaxing or participating in some of the activities available in the area.

Day 4: Mirleft – Fort Bou Jerif (2 hours) (B, D)
Bou-Jerif is located at the door of the Sahara, “in the middle of nowhere” as visitors often put it, surprised to find such comfort amid the desert hills, at the end of a track seemingly leading nowhere. At sunset, the colours are stunning and it is the best time to discover these places.
Generators provide the electricity, working for approx. 12/24 hrs.
Overnight: Fort Bou Jerif (3* hotel), best available room

Day 5: Fort Bou Jerif – Tafraoute (B, D)
A short journey to Guelimine, in the southern Anti-Atlas Mountains near the north-western edge of the Sahara. Guelimine is a walled town built of sun-dried red clay houses encircled by date palm groves. Historically it was a caravan centre linked to Timbuktu (now in Mali) and remains a commercial gateway to Mauritania. Continue over the Col de Kerdous to Tafraoute, a further 2.5 hours. Surrounded by pink granite mountains and a big number of Berber villages, Tafraoute enjoys a unique serenity.

Day 6: Tafraoute to Tata (2.5 hours) (B, D)
The quiet, pink coloured town and beautiful oasis of Tata is situated close to the Algerian border and the Anti Atlas Mountains at the foot of Jebel Bani. The scenery around Tata is dramatic, and there are many surrounding villages.

Day 7: Tata (B, D)
A day to relax or visit nearby rock carvings.

Day 8: Tata to Ouarzazate (5 hours) (B, D)
Ouarzazate has now become the centre of Sahara tourism. Historically, Ouarzazate was a small crossing point for African traders seeking to reach northern cities in Morocco and Europe. It is now home to Atlas Studios and many films featuring desert or semi-desert scenes including Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, Gladiator and Babel were shot in and around Ouarzazate. There is a choice of luxury accommodation.
Overnight: Dar Kamar, Suite

Day 9: Ouarzazate to Zagora (3 hours) (B, D)
Zagora is in the Draa Valley with its many oases. Tonight you can choose to stay in a Riad at Zagora or have an unforgettable desert experience staying in a bivouac tent.
Overnight: Riad Lamane or Desert Camp

Day 10: Zagora to Ouarzazate (3 hours) (B, D)
Return to Ouarzazate today.
Overnight: Dar Kamar, Suite

Day 11: Ouarzazate to Marrakech (4 hours)
A scenic, winding drive across the High Arlas Mountains. A short detour can be made to the UNESCO world heritage listed Kasbah at Ait Benhaddou, also a setting for many films.
Typical Inclusions:
