Mongolia –Ulaan Baatar and The Gobi Desert
Nestled between China and Russia, Mongolia is one of the world’s last great wilderness regions. Its history stretches back to the empires of Genghis Khan and its scenery offers vast, natural beauty. On this tour you will experience the Gobi Desert with its stunning views, vivid sunsets and nomadic families, to grassy steppes where wild horses and nomads roam.
Suggested Itinerary:
DAY 1: ARRIVE ULAAN BAATAR (L,D)
On arrival in Ulaan Baatar be met by your guide as you exit from Customs and be transferred to your hotel for a one night stay. In the afternoon we offer visits to Suktbaatar Square, the excellent History Museum and Zaisan Memorial. If there is enough time, we also plan a visit to The Bogd Khan’s Palace. The evening of this tour concludes with dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 2: ULAAN BAATAR TO DALANZADGAD, EAGLE VALLEY AND GER CAMP (B,L,D)
On the next morning of the travel Mongolia tour you visit Ganden Monastery for the day’s prayer and chanting ceremony. Later you are transferred to UB’s Airport for a lunch-time flight to the South Gobi and the town of Dalanzadgad. On arrival at Dalanzadgad our land cruiser will be awaiting our arrival and you immediately transfer to Eagle Valley. After visiting Eagle Valley you are transferred to Three Camels Ger Camp where you stay in deluxe Gers (with toilet and wash-basin) for 2 nights and which is your base for exploring this fascinating region. Dinner tonight at the Three Camels Ger Camp.
DAY 3: SAND DUNES, WEEPING CAMELS & THROAT SINGING (B,L,D)
This morning you visit Bayanzag and the Moltzog Sand Dunes and also have an opportunity to visit a nomadic family that rears camels. You have the afternoon at leisure and we will arrange to play the delightful local movie The Weeping Camel, at the Camp’s Lounge, and which portrays the life of a nomadic family that rears camels and the rejection of a baby camel by its mother. It’s a delightfully simple story and offers a very charming insight into the nomadic people of the Gobi region. After dinner at the camp, a short performance of Throat Singing, a quite amazing Mongolian singing tradition and a unique experience on this tour.
DAY 4 RETURN TU UB (B,L,D)
After a morning at leisure you are transferred to Dalanzadgad Airport for the short flight back to UB where on arrival you are transferred back to the Chinggis Khan Hotel for a final night’s stay of this tour. This evening you visit an excellent cultural show which pulls together folk singing and dances from around the country and then a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
DAY 5: DEPARTURE FROM ULAAN BAATAR (B)
The conveniently timed transfer to Ulaan Baatar’s airport brings this unique short journey of travel in Mongolia to an end.
