Day 1: Cairo - Alexandria
Leave Cairo and the Nile behind as your guide travels with you for the 3 hour drive north-west to Alexandria on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon to see the important sites of this cosmopolitan city, including: the National Museum which houses an impressive collection of artefacts from ancient times to the modern era, Abu Abbas Masjid and a photo stop at the 15th century Qait Bay Fortress built on the foundations of the Pharos lighthouse.

Day 2 Alexandria (B)
This morning visit the Roman amphitheatre, the impressive Library of Alexandria, said to built on the site of the city’s first library and the catacombs of Kum Shukafa. This afternoon is at leisure to explore at your own pace

Day 3: Alexandria – Siwa Oasis (B,L,D)
Continue along the coast to El Alamein, scene of one of the decisive battles of World War II. After a picnic lunch journey through the Great Sand Sea (the Sahara) to Siwa, Egypt’s westernmost oasis

Day 4: Siwa Oasis (B,L,D)
The local inhabitants of Siwa are a combination of Bedouin and Sudanese. Meet a Bedouin family and enjoy some local hospitality and gain new appreciation for their age-old agricultural techniques. Also visit Cleopatra’s baths, the tombs of Gebel el Mawta, the remains of the Temple of Jupiter, the Old City and the local markets. Siwa Oasis hotel (choice of category)
Day 5: Alexandria – Cairo (B,L)
Return by road to Cairo
