Tanzania Safari
Tanzania Safari
Elisabeth Greider is one of our most experienced and well-travelled Advisors, and when she was asked to nominate her favourite journey she quickly nominated Tanzania, East Africa, as her standout choice. In her opinion the scenery, wildlife, people and colours of Tanzania are magnificent. As soon she arrived in Africa, Elisabeth understood that this continent was different to any other and in Tanzania it was the warm smiles and hospitality of the local people, their colourful clothing, the noisy and thrilling markets and especially the wildlife that made such a lasting impression and then turned her into a passionate fan of East Africa.
The journey she made took her to Tarangire National Park, and to Ngorongoro Crater in Ngorongoro National Park. In Tarangire the elephant reigns. The comfortable tented camp, Swala, is located to take advantage of the finest elephant viewing opportunities in East Africa. Elisabeth says that the most favourable time to visit is in the dry season from June to December.
Few places on Earth compare to the breathtaking natural beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater. It is widely regarded as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This collapsed volcanic caldera, 260 square kilometres in size and 600 metres to its floor, encompasses several different ecosystems, from the caldera itself to volcanoes, grasslands, waterfalls and mountain forest. Its unique attraction, apart from the jaw-dropping vistas, is its concentration of animals. This is “Wildlife Central”, an ecosystem in which the animals “migrate” across the floor of the caldera, mirroring the mass migrations of the Serengeti that take place on the plains outside its walls.
Elisabeth is keen to tell you more about her passion for East Africa.
