Paul is still talking about the sensational views from the Horizon Club harbour view rooms, the hot towel service and the exquisitely presented jasmine tea service provided with an in-room check-in. What also impressed him are sensational, light-as-a-feather breakfast omelettes and a Veuve in the glamorous bar before an evening sortie.

Paul adores a quiet drink at the Horizon Bar in time for the 8PM light show on the harbour. No doubt, however, in saying that the very best view of the nightly harbour show is from a table at Petrus. Despite the fact that I love a low-key stay anywhere, this hotel is ideal for family celebrations or even for working groups who might want to enjoy the pleasures of the metropolis as much as any necessary work. My final tip: the concierge is a genius. At short notice he was able to secure me a table for lunch at one of the most coveted and atmospheric clubs in the city. It’s steps away from the hotel, let’s you in on Hong Kong’s rich colonial past and has a special view of the harbour from one of its rooftop bars. I have heard tales of his prowess in re-uniting long staying guests with their golf clubs in a far distant city that are beyond impressive.
