Strasbourg – A 3 days and 4 nights tour of vineyards and picturesque villages.
One of the most delightful France wine regions with an emphasis on the wine trails of the Alsace and Burgundy region and the delightful architecture of its towns and villages – not to forget the wonderful food!
Suggested Itinerary:
DAY 1: DISCOVER STRASBOURG ON A WALKING TOUR THEN VISIT A CELLAR (B)
After breakfast, departure for a half day walking tour of Strasbourg to discover the districts of the town, followed by the visit to the Cathedral and the city’s tanners.
Strasbourg is the intellectual and economic capital of Alsace. Its privileged geographical situation as well as its rich history, ensures its exceptional importance. It was therefore natural that Strasbourg was chosen as the home of European institutions.
After lunch at a recommended restaurant or café you can visit the historical cellars of Hospices Civils. Then return to your hotel at the end of the day.
DAY 2: WINE ROADS (B)
Meet your private guide and your driver to depart for a full day tour on the Wine Road. Arrive in Barr for a half day tour followed by a wine tasting in one of the famous vineyards. Barr, a wine-growing village located near Strasbourg, is nestled up in the vineyard-covered hills.
For lunch, your guide will recommend a good local restaurant.
Proceed to Obernai. Take a stroll around the ramparts, look out upon the monochrome sea of the most beautiful roofs in the world and pause for a moment in front of the Convent School (l’Ecole des Soeurs).
On the way back to Strasbourg, you will pass through the village of Molsheim.
Return to your hotel at the end of the day.
Day 3: CASTLES AND CELLAR DOORS (B)
Meet your private guide and driver, then depart for a full day tour on the Wine Road.
The day will start with a visit of Haut-Koenigsbourg castle. Dominating the plain of Alsace and with a height of more than 700 metres, the fortress of Haut-Koenigsbourg counts amongst the architectural jewels bequeathed to France by medieval builders. Restored at the beginning of the 20th century, it preserves the sober aspect of a large feudal castle.
Visit the village of Kaysersberg, Albert Schweitzer’s very beautiful home-town, nestled in a Germanophone region which the German Empire returned to France after World War I.
Next to Kaysersberg, visit a cellar with a tasting of some Alsatian wines.
Enjoy lunch at Riquewihr, a town known as the “Pearl of the Vineyards“. This France wine village has a layout and structure that have not changed since the Middle Ages.
Return via numerous picturesque villages, with among others: Ribeauvillé, Châtenois, Scherwiller, Andlau, charming villages in the medieval stamp. Return to Strasbourg late in the afternoon.
Return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 4: MEDIEVAL VILLAGES AND VINEYARDS (B)
Meet your private guide and driver and depart for another full day tour on the Wine Road.
Begin with a visit of the charming city of Sélestat, famous for its Humanist Library and churches Holy Georges and Saint Foy. Proceed to Colmar and visit the old town with a ride on a local train. Colmar is the principal town of the vineyards of Alsace. You will be able to appreciate the remnants of medieval ramparts along the Lauch, the small river that crosses the region.
