Above the Namibian Desert

Above the Namibian Desert

Holiday in Namibia with Concierge TravellerNamibia is a country of heart-stopping vistas and skies that stretch seemingly beyond a normal horizon height. The daylight has the same appealing quality as the Australian outback. If a desert environment appeals, this country serves it up in every shade of the spectrum, pale and vivid and soft and harsh, but always dramatically changing as you travel.

This suggested itinerary presents you the highest desert dunes in the world in the oldest desert in the world plus exceptional photographic opportunities.

Suggested itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive Windhoek
You will be welcomed to the capital of Namibia and transferred privately to your hotel.

Day 2 Windhoek – Sossusvlei (B,L,D)
Your journey begins with a light aircraft flight south into the private 37,000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, an area of towering dunes and clear starry skies. Here you will find desert-adapted wildlife such as ostrich, springbok and gemsbok, sparsely distributed around Little Kulala. One bird, the aptly named dune lark, has its entire global distribution limited to this area and is dependent on the area’s characteristic sands

Day 3 Sossusvlei (B,L,D)
A morning guided drive to the spectacular dunes of Sossusvlei, through a private gate into the reserve. Sossusvlei is situated within the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world. Guided drives and walks are also offered on the private reserve with incredible views, desert-adapted wildlife and plants

Day 4 Sossusvlei – Damaraland (B,L,D)
A morning flight delivers you to the coastal town of Swakopmund for a gourmet seafood lunch. Then a scenic flight over the spectacular Skeleton Coast and on to Damaraland. Your camp is located in possibly the most pristine wilderness area in Namibia, the Huab River Valley. It boasts panoramic vistas of stark plains, ancient valleys and the soaring inselberg of the Brandberg Mountains

Day 5 Damaraland (B,L,D)
The day is at leisure to explore this rugged landscape. Choose from the following activities: Morning and afternoon game drives in search of desert-adapted elephant. Gemsbok, greater kudu, springbok, and occasionally lion, cheetah and black rhino can be spotted too. Or view some of Africa’s best-known rock engravings, including the famous Twyfelfontein etchings, and have the opportunity to see desert flora along the way including euphorbias and shepherd’s trees.

Day 6 Damaraland – Ongava Game Reserve (B,L,D)
A fight takes you to your camp in the much-lauded Ongava Game Reserve just south of the Etosha National Park. It overlooks a nearby waterhole where a plethora of wildlife congregates to drink. Etosha National Park is Namibia’s premier wildlife destination and one of Africa’s largest game reserves. In dry season large herds of wildlife teem around the waterholes and the endless plains offer breathtaking vistas.

Day 7 Etosha National Park (B,L,D)
Activities revolve around day and night drives, visiting hides that overlook waterholes and walks with experienced guides. The Ongava Game Reserve features much of the characteristic wildlife of the area, with both desert-adapted black and white rhino to be seen as well as lion. The Ongava Game Reserve is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where there is a chance of seeing both black and white rhino. For those who enjoy close wildlife encounters, tracking white rhino on foot with a guide is a highlight not to be missed
