The natural wonders of Uganda
The natural wonders of Uganda
If you feel like having some gorillas in your midst, there’s no better choice than a holiday in Uganda to get you up close and personal with the hairy giants. Uganda is a nature and wildlife lover’s paradise, featuring gorilla trekking, chimpanzee parks, crater lakes and the mighty Murchison Falls.
At the Igongo Cultural Village you can explore the fascinating lifestyle and culture of the Ankole and Bahima people. Cruise the beautiful Kazinga Channel, unchanged after hundreds of years, and get ready to spot buffalo, hippos, elephants, kobs and warthogs – along with some stunning scenery.
Go ape for gorilla trekking
Pack up your handy rain jacket, drinking water, snacks and lace up those jungle boots for a day seeking out your hairy friends on a gorilla trekking expedition. We can arrange a guide to lead you deep into the leafy jungle, in search of the shy primates, or mountain gorillas.
The walks can last between two and six hours, depending on how soon you find the gorillas, so be prepared for a lot of walking. Once you find them, however, you will be amazed at how gracefully they move and respond to one another.
Stay in the Ndali Lodge
Known as the Cradle of the Nile, Uganda is one of Africa’s best-kept secrets, and a stay at the gorgeous Ndali Lodge can be arranged to help you see it in all its true splendour.
Ndali Lodge is set amongst the Bunyaruguru Crater Lake region of Western Uganda, boasting spectacular scenery and endless varieties of plants, birds and animal life. At night, the beautiful dining room is lit with candles and, to ensure it stays peaceful and tranquil for all, the lodge has no electricity or generators – just solar lights in the stunning cottages to highlight those noisy fruit bats and frogs.
With this as your base, we can organize a private driver to take you on a tour and show you the very best the area has to offer. You’ll soon see why Uganda is so popular for outdoor enthusiasts.
Murchison Falls National Park
As you observe the mighty river Nile exploding through a narrow, almost impossible gorge, flowing down rocks to transform into a peaceful river, you’ll be more than glad you made your way to the biggest national park in Uganda. On the riverbanks you’ll spot crocodiles, waterbucks, hippos and buffaloes, and if you head into the forest on a guided tour, you might even see some lions, leopards, hartebeests and chimpanzees.
Chimpanzee spotting
If you’ve got monkeys on your mind in Uganda, you won’t want to miss your chance at spending time with the chimpanzees. We can arrange a tour for you, either privately or in a group. There are over 5000 chimpanzees in Uganda, many of which live in national parks. Others are in wildlife preserves and places conducive to their lifestyle.
A specialty tour guide will take you to the places most likely to offer you an encounter, such as the Nkuringo Gorilla Camp on the Nteko Ridge. This stunning camp overlooks a beautiful stretch of the world-renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Explore the Crater Lakes region
For rolling hills, expansive, sweet-smelling vanilla plantations, pretty, dewy forests and of course the spectacular lakes, the Crater Lakes region in Uganda makes for a beautiful destination. These crater lakes were formed because of ancient volcanic activity in Uganda some 10,000 years ago. Ask your guide to show you the walk between Lakes Nkuruba and Nyabikere, which takes between two and three hours and passes Lake Nyamirima on the way.
