Bhutan Druk Path and Cultural Tour
Bhutan Druk Path and Cultural Tour
Trek the ancient Druk Path into the heart of Bhutan, from Paro to the capital Thimphu. Accompanied by pack ponies, we walk through flowering forests to isolated villages, share ridgeline trails with monks and yak herders, visit monasteries and relax in accommodation ranging from resort to comfortable mountain camps. Bhuddist and natural delights in this Himalayan Kingdom.
Days 1-3 Paro
Our Bhutanese guide welcomes us to Paro and the peaceful Kichu Resort. We spend three nights, with day excursions that include the 16th century temples of Dzong Drakha and a cliff-hugging walk to Tiger’s Nest Taksang Monastery, high above the valley.
Days 4-7 Jili Dzong to Phadjoding
Ponies carry our bags on a five-day walk on the original track connecting Bhutan to India. We ascend to a campsite just below the Jili Dzong monastery, which we visit next day, as well as the Tshomphu monastery, with its floating idol statue. Day 7 takes us to sacred Jimi Langtsho, renowned for its abundant trout and spectacular Chorten, then to our camp at Jana Tsho (lake). We cross our highest pass, the Simkota La, past ancient sky burial sites before descending to Phadjoding.
Days 8-9 Thimphu
Great views of Gangkar Punsum, Bhutan’s highest peak, on our short walk to the trailhead and vehicle transfer to our hotel for two nights stay. There’s time to relax and visit the late king’s Memorial Chorten, textile museum and Takin Reserve.
Days 10-12 Wangdi/Paro
Drive to Wangdi, via Punakha, home the most sacred dzong (fortress) in Bhutan, rising spectacularly above the confluence of two rivers. After a night in Wangdi, we return to Paro for two nights before bidding farewell to our fellow trekkers.
