Exquisite Scuba Diving, lovely natural surroundings and an appealing range of places to stay.
Though Fiji has palm-lined beaches and coral reefs like many other parts of the South Pacific, it’s often the people of the islands, rather than the scenery, that make it memorable. Their friendliness to visitors is well-known, expressed with a pleasant bula (welcome) and with an invitation to join them for a bowl of lip-numbing kava.
Fijians have not always been as friendly to one another: Political struggles between ethnic Fijians and the descendants of Indian laborers have resulted in three political coups since 1987. Visitors were largely unaffected by the events, however, and although the situation remains somewhat unstable, Fiji is considered a safe destination. As a result, it is in the middle of a record-setting tourism boom.
A Fiji holiday package promises a lot of enjoyable possibilities: exquisite scuba diving, lovely natural surroundings and an appealing range of places to stay—from secluded, eye-poppingly expensive resorts to pleasant guesthouses on the beach to simple accommodations with local villagers.
Advisor tips for Fiji
Resorts
Toberua Island -Fiji
Food and diving are the main highlights on this island – the privacy of this island is great – very small and personal. Service is amazing! – Kim L
Shangri-la Fijian -Fiji
Fantastic spot for weddings of any size. Caters for all markets – couples, families and groups. If you are looking for a quiet this isn’t for you. Lots of activities to do and lots of entertainment happening. – Kim L
Toberua Island Fiji – located of the coast ofSuva (a 45 mins boat transfer). The resort is of traditional Fijian style and offers large bures that can sleep up to four people in comfort. There are 3 meals a day provided in your tariff, these can be eaten at tables they have set up on the beach or in the restaurant. It was amazing experiences seeing your fish or lobster dinner arrive in the morning, in a wheelbarrow freshly caught. Some of the most delicious seafood I have ever tasted. The resort boasts the only low tide golf course – 9 holes on the reef. Great snorkelling straight of the beach. The hospitality of the Fijian people is second to none and makes you happy to have visited such a beautiful place. - Trina
Must do experiences
Fiji off the Yasawa group of islands
Scuba Diving with sharks – lots of reef sharks, fish and coral. You just watch these magnificent creatures glide by. – Maria
Levuka – the old capital of Fiji.
We travelled to Levuka by boat – when we arrived it was like stepping back in time. It actually reminded me of a old town in the west of America– just needs a saloon bar. The water is crystal clear and the people are so friendly. The little town is steeped in history and it was a lovely place to wander. Must have lunch at the Whales Tale Restaurant. – Trina
