Exclusive, Individual Tour of Germany


Enjoy a private, tailor-made tour that can encompass 17th Century castles to Bauhaus to developments since the fall of the Berlin Wall as well as scenic and cultural aspects of Germany.  Visits will take account of your interests and also into places  ordinarily inaccessible to the general public.

Sample Itinerary:

Day 1: Munich
Private airport transfer to hotel on arrival at Munich
In the afternoon take an overview tour with an English speaking driver guide including a visit the historic city centre.

Tour highlights:
 
• The Marienplatz, a square named for the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary, with its 19th-century Gothic New Town Hall whose famous glockenspiel is rung twice daily
• Hofbräuhaus beer hall
• The Ohel Jakob synagogue as the new main synagogue of the Munich Jewish community

End with coffee, chocolate and truffles at the famous delicatessen ‘Alois Dallmayr’ with its vaulted ceilings, marble columns and walls adorned with deer antlers.

Day 2: Nymphenburg/Dachau  (B, L)
Visit Nymphenburg Castle, the former summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria and home to the famous Nymphenburg Porcelain.  Lunch at the Palm House in the gardens.
Afternoon visit to Dachau, site of the first concentration camp in Bavaria which was erected by the Nazis in 1933, under the direction of SS commander, Heinrich Himmler.

Day 3: Castle touring (B, L)
Full day excursion to the Ludwigcastles Neuschwanstein and Linderhof. Travel to the end of Germany’s famous ‘Romantic Road’ and visit the fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein.
 
Drive to Schloss Linderhof, to see the smallest of the three castles built by Ludwig. Dating from 1874, Linderhof is the only one of Ludwig’s castles that was completed and was his residence for an extended period of time.

Day 4: Rothenburg (B, L)
Depart Munich and drive along the Romantic Road towards Rothenburg, stopping in the quaint villages of Dinkelsbuehl and Noerdlingen the most photographed towns in Germany.
Enjoy a walking tour of Rothenburg, a completely preserved medieval town with the imposing Town Hall from the 13th century.  Stop for lunch at a charming German Gasthaus in a former Mill.
Visit the St James Church to see the famous wooden altar carved by Tilmann Riemenschneider in 1501 then continue to Frankfurt.

Day 5: Frankfurt (B)
Morning overview tour to include:
• The ‘Römer’, Frankfurt’s city hall, which dates from 1405
• Ostzeile, the splendid row of medieval framework houses on the main city square
• Saint Leonard's Church, the Kaiserdom (Imperial Cathedral) which was built between the 13th and the 15th c. and Saint Paul's church
• Goethe’s childhood home and residence
 
Afternoon free to visit to the fabulous museum collections the city has to offer.

Day 6: Heidelberg (B, L)
Drive through the typical villages of the Bergstrasse, Germany’s pastoral agricultural area, through the mountains to Schriesheim and on to the fabled city of Heidelberg
 
Visit the famous castle dating from the early 13th century which is one of the prime examples of German Renaissance architecture. Then walk through the historic city centre. Lunch en route then return to Frankfurt.
 
Day 7: Rhinegau  (B)
Depart the hotel with for a tour of the romantic “Rheingau” valleys, the home of the famous Riesling wines. Then drive along the Rhine and stop at some of the typical wine villages en route. Take a scenic boat cruise to St. Goarshausen.
Later, visit the “Kloster Eberbach”, an ancient Cistercian monastery boasting a winemaking tradition for over 700 years. Enjoy a walking tour through the complex of church, buildings, museum and the impressive wine cellar. End the day with a striking location for an exclusive, private wine tasting in a former knight’s castle on the banks of the river
 
Day 8: Berlin (B)
Transfer to the Frankfurt airport for a morning flight to Berlin. Afternoon orientation tour that will incorporate the past, present and future of Berlin through its architecture, monuments and museums. Then Cold War Sites such as:
• Brandenburg Gate
• Checkpoint Charlie
• Berlin Wall 
 
Day 9: Berlin  (B, L)
Morning tour to concentrate on the New Architectural developments since the Fall of the Wall; Potsdamer Platz, Government and Embassy districts.
By special permission, a private visit to the interior of a fabulous Frank Gehry designed building at the Brandenburg Gate. Lunch at a fun spot in Berlin.
 
In the afternoon you will visit the famous Museum Island, with private tours of the Pergamon Museum as well as the Altes Museum with an art historian/expert.

Day 10: Potsdam (B)
Excursion to the former seat of the Prussian kings and summer residence of Frederick the Great as well as a private tour of his pastoral retreat ‘Sans Souci.

Lunch in the historic city centre of Potsdam.
Drive through the charming Dutch quarter of the 17th century and Russian Quarter of Alexandrovka.
Cross the famous ‘Spy Bridge’ Glienicke Bruecke, witness to some spectacular spy exchanges during the cold war.

Day 11 Berlin (B)
At leisure - This is perfect time to visit KaDeWe, Europe’s largest department for lunch on the amazing 6th floor food halls.  We also provide you with recommendations to explore museum collections, shopping areas, etc.
Day 12: Berlin (B)
Departure transfer
