Around 60 kilometres to the east of Budapest rise the contours of the Mátra, from afar still reminiscent of a giant volcano. Leaving the Mátra behind, for a distance of one hundred kilometres, continuous vineyards are to be found on the southern slopes of the hills. Mátraalja, Eger and Bükkalja wine countries are listed under this region, the most famous wines being Eger Bikavér (Bull’s Blood), Eger Leányka, Debrõ Hárslevelû and Olaszrízling.
