Bali and Borobudur Tour
This independent 9 day tour in Bali and Java is locally hosted by carefully selected local guides, and designed to give you an ideal in depth appreciation of Balinese and Javanese cultures. The tour begins in Denpasar and concludes in Yogyakarta in Java.
Suggested Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Denpasar
You are met upon arrival at Denpasar Airport and taken directly to your luxury resort in Candi Dasa. En route, your travel guide will brief you on the events ahead.
Day 2: Cruise & Snorkelling (B, L)
This morning take a cruise along Bali's eastern shore aboard a 50-foot traditionally styled Balinese outrigger. The warm tropical waters are teeming with brilliantly coloured reef fish a delight for snorkelers, both beginners and experienced. Enjoy refreshments and a light lunch before returning to the resort. As another option you may trek or cycle though the countryside. This afternoon you can relax or choose to explore Padangbai, a small fishing village close to the Amankila.
Day 3: Candi Dasa to Ubud (B)
This morning depart on a sightseeing excursion to Ubud. Your first stop is at Goa Lawah, a Bat Cave Temple carved into the face of a cliff - full of bats that make a mass exodus after dusk. Next, see Kerthagosa, the "Hall of Justice," that was effectively the supreme court of the Klungkung Kingdom. After lunch, learn about the Hindu culture and experience the traditional daily life of the rural Balinese. Adventure along village roads full of community farms and cottage industries. You are invited into the homes of some of the local artisans and craftsmen to experience their hospitality and let them share their skills, and the stories behind their crafts. Learn about Bali's complex Subak irrigation system as you walk through the rice fields that cascade down terraced hillsides like giant steps. Arrive at your resort in Ubud by late afternoon.
Day 4: Ayung River Valley (B)
The central Balinese countryside surrounding your resort is rich in craft, culture and colour. The terraced hillsides and rural villages are made for hiking, biking and exploring. Awaken early this morning for a trek into the Ayung River Valley, followed by a healthy picnic breakfast. The remainder of the day is free to explore the area on your own or relax and enjoy the amenities at your resort.
Day 5: Ubud to Nusa Dua (B, L)
Depart Ubud this morning, and head west to the village of Pelaga, and to tour its scenic 42 acres of gardens and rich organic farmland. Learn about the unique organic farming process, and perhaps try your hand at planting. Meander through the gazebos where the villagers demonstrate making traditional Balinese products. After a relaxing lunch overlooking the plantations, continue to the Nusa Dua area of Bali.
Day 6: Bedugal & Lake Beratan (B, L)
Today enjoy a fascinating full day tour to the lush green highlands of Bedugul. Visit the Candi Kuning Market with its colourful fruit and flower stalls. Next travel to Lake Beratan to tour the 17th century Ulun Danu Temple. Located on the shores of the lake, it exhibits the Balinese harmony between Hindu and Buddhist cultures. Continue to Alas Kedaton or "Holy Forest," to explore the sacred monkey forest. See hundreds of monkeys living free in their natural habitat, residing high in the nutmeg trees of this 15-acre forest, and flourishing in the Pura Bukit Temple located in the middle of the forest. End today's journey with a spectacular sunset at the famous Tanah Lot Temple, built on a volcanic out-crop on Bali's rugged west coast.
Day 7: Nusa Dua to Yogyakarta (B)
Enjoy a day at leisure before you are taken to the airport for your flight to Yogyakarta. Upon arrival, you will be met and taken to your luxury resort.
Day 8: Borobudur (B)
Relax this morning at your resort. Then, later this afternoon, drive down to the Kedu Valley to explore the Borobudur Temple. Your expert local guides will reveal the secret meanings of this masterpiece, and bring to life the knowledge contained within its reliefs - Borobudur is a colossus that needs to be understood before its true grandeur is felt.
Day 9: Depart Yogyakarta (B)
Today you are taken to the airport for your flight home or on to your next destination.
