Independent Portugal Tour

 

This is an 8-day journey featuring Porto, Regua, Pinhao, Obidos, Sintra, Cascais and Lisbon.  This tour has been carefully created to give an in-depth, individual experience.

Suggeested Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Porto
You are met upon arrival in Porto, and taken directly to your hotel, the Hotel Infante de Sagres. Your afternoon tour includes the highlights, visiting the Stock Exchange Palace, the Lello bookshop, an exquisite landmark dating to the early 1900ʹs and Casa do Infante, the birthplace of Henry the Navigator. Day 2: Régua & Pinhão  (B)
Today enjoy a full day journey along the picturesque River Douro, through the Port Wine region. Stroll through the vineyards and see their process of producing wine and sample their Port wine. After lunch take a private cruise on the river, heading towards Pinhão. Dock at the Vintage House and explore the village before returning to Porto. Hotel: Hotel Infante de Sagres

Day 3: Óbidos & Sintra  (B)
Drive south today, stopping en route to visit the quaint and white walled town, of Óbidos with its picturesque landscape of town walls and grand castle. Stroll through town, with its narrow and winding streets and charming white wash houses then continue on to the quaint and aristocratic town of Sintra. Hotel: Hotel Tivoli Palacio de Seteais

Day 4: Sintra & Cascais to Lisbon  (B)
A World Heritage Site, Sintra has a magical terrain dotted with grand palaces and castles. Your morning tour will explore some of the castles, with a highlight being the ‘Palácio da Pena,’ or Pena Palace. Then continue your drive, following the scenic coastline, with breaks to take in the wonderful vistas. Stop in the centre of the quaint town of Cascais to explore a little then arrive in Lisbon. Day 5: Lisbon  (B)
This morning enjoy a tour of Lisbon, starting with a visit to the 16th century Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery. Your next stop is to explore Alfama, one of the oldest quarters in Lisbon, which amazingly still retains much of its original layout. Take a ride on the charming tram for a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Lisbon is full of mosaic pavements around colorful buildings with dazzling tiled façades. Hotel: Hotel Lapa Palace

Day 6: Reguengos de Monsaraz & Évora  (B, L)
This morning drive into the Alentejo region of soft rolling hills and plains, covered with cork oaks and olive trees.. Stop in Reguengos to visit the region’s best‐known winery, the Esporão Wine Estate. Enjoy lunch at the estate restaurant along with tasting the local olive oils and cheeses, paired with some of their excellent wines. This afternoon arrive in Évora to enjoy a walking tour through the labyrinthine streets. Hotel: Convento do Espinheiro

Day 7: Igrejinha & Arraiolos to Lisbon  (B, L)
Late morning depart Évora and drive to Herdade dos Coelheiros wine estate for a private visit. This is a beautiful property of cork trees, walnut orchards and vineyards.. The owner is one of the most exuberant personalities in the Portuguese wine world and her enthusiasm is infectious. After lunch at the estate, explore the quaint little town of Arraiolos and its traditional tapestry, before returning to Lisbon. Hotel: Hotel Lapa Palace

Day 8: Depart Lisbon  (B)
Today you are taken to the airport for your flight home or on to your next destination.
