Bicycle tour from St Moritz to Innsbruck

 

7 days and 6 nights of bike touring in Switzerland, staying in atmospheric inns. The journey from St Moritz to Innsbruck, takes you through picturesque countryside and villages and is approximately 225 kilometres in length.


Suggested Itinerary:

DAY 1: ARRIVE ST MORITZ
Receive information and collect your bicycle for the start of the cycle tour. If you have time take a walk or ride your bicycle round the lake to get a quick impression of this fashionable Swiss winter resort.

Overnight in St. Moritz.
 
DAY 2:  ST MORITZ TO ZERMATT (35 kms) (B)
You cycle the 35 km from St Moritz to Zernez through the valley of the Upper Engadine, the door to the Swiss National Park. On the way enjoy Samedan (Old Tower), La Punt (early gothic church San-Andrea with its frescos) and Zuoz (window paintings in the church San Luzi).

Overnight in Zernez.
 
DAY 3: ZERNEZ TO SCUOL (35 kms) (B)
Continue the bike touring in this beautiful corner of Switzerland. After breakfast this cycling tour takes you on a journey through historic villages and experience magical landscapes as you visit Lavin and the village Guarda ("Look!"). The lookout offers beautiful views before you arrive in Scuol, famous for its spas.

DAY 4: SCUOL TO RIED (55 kms) (B)
Today you travel over the border to Austria. Follow the Inn Trail through Martina, Pfunds and Tosers arriving in Ried. The cycling journey follows the river Inn and takes you through Finstermünzer Schlucht (gorge) as well as the town centres of Stuben and Pfunds/Tirol.

Overnight in Ried.

DAY 5:  RIED (40 kms)  (B)
Ride to the village of Imst through the Obere Gericht (Upper Court) from Ried over Prutz down to Landeck (castle with museum, ruin Schrofenstein, Gerberbrücke - a showplace of the Tyrolean struggles for freedom). You pass the monastery of Zams and travel through Milser Au to Imst (town of the wells, lots of churches and chapels). Time permitting on this cycling tour, a visit to Rosengartenschlucht (rose garden gorge) is recommended.

Overnight in Imst.
 
DAY 6: IMST TO INNSBRUCK (65 kms) (B)
The villages of Stams, Telfs and Inzing will make your journey to the winter Olympic city of Innsbruck a visual feast. Cultural highlights of today's stage include the Zisterzienserstrift Stams (collegiate church with rose grids) and you will see numerous small churches and ruins are on the ascents of the Inn-valley. The city of Innsbruck with its Golden Roof, a late gothic bay window built in 1500, is a must visit on this last day of this cycling tour.

Return your bicycle and overnight in Innsbruck.
 
DAY 7: INNSBRUCK AND DEPARTURE (B)
After breakfast, consider a longer stay in Innsbruck or depart for your next destination.
 
Route Features:
 
Partly cycling paths, partly gravel paths. The stages are a little bit hilly, with two to three middle ascents and a lot of regular down hills. Before considering this trail, take medical advice on your fitness levels.
